BEYOND HEALING: WOUND CARE FROM A PALLIATIVE PERSPECTIVE

BEYOND HEALING: WOUND CARE FROM A PALLIATIVE PERSPECTIVE
This book provides a comprehensive discussion of the concepts and practices of palliative wound care as an integral part of modern healthcare, particularly for patients with progressive chronic diseases, advanced malignancies, and terminal conditions involving skin and wound complications. The approach presented emphasizes a paradigm shift from a curative focus toward improving quality of life, managing symptoms, and preserving patient dignity. The book covers the epidemiology of chronic and cancer-related wounds in palliative populations, the basic principles of symptom management for pain, exudate, malodor, and bleeding, as well as evidence-based clinical approaches to selecting wound care interventions and dressings. It also integrates the psychosocial, spiritual, and ethical dimensions that are essential to palliative care practice. The role of healthcare professionals, particularly Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses (WOC(ET)Ns), is discussed in depth as key providers in the delivery of palliative wound care. The book highlights the importance of additional palliative care competencies, patient and family education, and multidisciplinary collaboration in achieving patient-centered care goals. Through a systematic, literature-based approach informed by current evidence and relevant to clinical practice in Indonesia, this book is intended to serve as a reference for nurses, physicians, academics, and other healthcare professionals in developing wound care services that are more comprehensive, compassionate, and responsive to patients’ needs in the era of modern healthcare.
